Crypto donations to politicians are now legal in Japan. At the press conference on the 8th, Mr. Sanae Takaichi expressed his recognition that crypto assets (virtual currency) are not subject to regulation over donations (contributions) to individual politicians prohibited by the Political Funds Control Law.
He also explains that “monetary money” prohibited by the law was money and securities. He stated that “cryptographic assets do not fall under any of the above, and don’t limit donations”.
Furthermore, crypto assets are “legal” when donated to individual politicians, and are not included in the report on political funds.
In response to the indication that laws and regulations are necessary, Mr. Takaichi said: “Because it will limit the political activities of politicians, it will be a problem to be discussed by each party and each group”.
